The state house is obviously important for the political events that happen here and within/ around most state houses. This one however was built in 1895-1904 and it is home to the 4th largest self-supporting marble dome in the world. On top of the dome is a 500 pound bronze statue called The Independent Man. This building was designed by architecture firm of McKim, Mead, and White, who also designed the Boston public library and renovations of the white house.
