The Tennessee College for Women opened here in 1907 and educated girls of all ages. The school later became a standard college, and graduates received lifetime Tennessee teaching certificates. Courses in art, music, physical education, and drama enhanced the curriculum. In 1946, the college merged with Lebanon’s Cumberland University and five years later became part of Ward-Belmont School for Women in Nashville, now Belmont University.
