Tetrazygia (Tetrazygia bicolor) is a shrub with either an open or dense crown. Trunks grow up to about 4 inches in diameter with a light gray to brown colored bark. The top of the leaves are dark green with a silvery underside, and they are about 3-6 inches long. Typical shrubs grow to be 10-15 feet in height while championing trees can grow up to 41 feet in height in South Florida. One may predominantly find Tetrazygia in wetlands like those found the Everglades. Their purple fruits provide a great food source for native bird species.
