The second oldest of the original buildings of Knights Ferry, this store on the corner of Main and Dean Street was first built in 1852 by Messrs, Moulton and Drew. In 1867 the next owner, George Valpey became a Wells Fargo and Company agent and installed wooden pigeon holes for packages and letters that came by stage. The next owner of the store was Ernest Collings, whose father, Asa Colleings, operated the Knights Ferry packing company and a cannery at the top of the hill, east of the present school. The General Store has the distinction of being the oldest continually operated general store in the state of California.
