This long swath of meadow in front of you is only mowed twice per year to reduce fuel use and encourage habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. Take a side trip through the mowed paths to a trail through the adjacent woods, which leads to the oldest oak in the arboretum at the top of the hill in view from this point. The opposite side of the meadow is bordered by our Nut Tree Collection, planted in the 1950’s to study varieties of pecan, hickory, and walnut.
