THE MODERNIST
Rua D. Francisco Gomes 27
Built in late 1974.
Was formerly the office of a regional shipping company. A good example of South Modern architecture.
The building has recently been totally restored but kept its whole modernist personality. From the roof top to the geometric azuleijos integrated in the concrete facade.
ARCHITECTURE TIP :
* Windows is a good way to check differences between Art Deco and South Modernism. While Art deco have narrow windows, South Modern is a streamlined architecture with large banded openings and windows.
* South Modern façade have smooth stone and azuleijos surfaces when Art Deco is more pastel concrete.
