The North Field - DO NOT TRESPASS ON THIS PROPERTY!

Lansing, Iowa 52151, United States

Created By: Liz Stewart

Information

Please do NOT trespass on this property. This road leads to the North Field of John Moore's farm.

It was in this field that Milly (Moore) Exworthy was injured by the thresher in an accident that cut off the end of her foot. My mother tells the story this way:

"Ray and Harold had come to the field to do some clean up and Ray started a grass fire. It was not a good day for it and in a short time it was out of control. Ray hitched the horses to the mower to cut a few swathes of hay to slow the fire doan and just at that time Millie showed up with lunch for them.

Ray asked her to take the pitch fork and move the cut hay away from the fire. She was doing that but was excited and stepped into the path of the mower and her foot was cut nearly in half! Ray switched the horses back to the hayrack and got Millie in, left Harold with the grass fire and headed for home across this field. Millie held her foot together all the way to slow the bleeding. Edna and I both remember hearing the wagon coming and Mother's alarm when she knew that something was wrong. She thought Harold might have been hurt as she did not see him in the hayrack. A plasterer who was working on the new house (after the fire) applied a tourniquet to Millie's leg and probably saved her life."

- PLEASE RESPECT THE CURRENT TENANTS AND DO NOT TRESPASS
