This reconstructed public well was constructed between 1818 and 1824. The well’s completion was delayed because of a destructive fire that resulted in all of Murfreesboro’s wooden chimneys being torn down and replaced with stone chimneys, deleting the supply of stones for the well. The well would have been used by all kinds of people who frequented the downtown area. At some point, the well was covered up, but it was rediscovered during renovations in 1989.
