The Sunset Cafe was on the second floor — it used to be the ace hardware and now it's a beauty supply store — but it was a nightclub, kind of a speakeasy. You had some of the greatest jazz musicians in time, Duke Ellington was one of the favorites that would visit the space, because keep in mind during the late 1930s all the way through through the 60s right there was a period of time, where you had these great entertainers coming in and Chicago was like Harlem right. But the thing was that Black folks couldn't go downtown but white folks could come to the south side so it's edgy and seedy, but it was still cool.
