When Gothenburg was founded back in 1621 it was built by dutch citybuilders who where accustomed to build canals. Since the city was built to by a trading city we needed traders, german traders. They settled here, invited by the king and as a praise for their services the city built their own church. The original was lost in fires and the current one was finished in 1783.
