Information

This tower was built around 1900 as a fire control tower dedicated to Battery Jack Adams and later to Battery Stevenson on Front I. This meant that it tracked incoming targets helped relay elevation and bearing information to those guns to direct their fire. During World War 2, this tower tracked the movements of friendly ship that were arriving and departing through the submerged minefields of the Narrows Channel (between Georges Island and Lovell’s and Gallops Islands) and Nantasket Roads (on the northern side of Lovell’s Island along through the northern tip of Long Island). A wooden flagpole was located just next to the tower that displayed various signal flags and devices.
