6th @ San Juan Street, Venice, California
To transform the worst drug dealer corner in the Oakwood neighborhood of Venice into a beautiful, interesting, safe & serene neighborhood park, I invited neighbors to join me in creating an in-ground Labyrinth, (a spiritual path), to paint the Church and landscape the garden.
Our efforts restored Bethel Tabernacle Church (the property owner), to its original Craftsman glory.
Years later, other neighbors researched the history of the site and learned that prior to being the Church, this was the Monday Women's Club, a 1920's Black Women's community house. It is now a Los Angeles Cultural Historic Landmark.
