About: The sculpture “Visionary” commemorates the life of Sir Sandford Fleming and his contributions to Canada and the world. This sculpture includes the elements of a surveyor’s transit, the compass, time, significant dates in Fleming’s life and the globe.

Sir Sandford Fleming was closely involved with the creation of the railway across Canada (he is in the famous photo of the ‘Last Spike’) but he is best known as the founder of the concept of standard time and the division of the world into 24 time zones.
