Information

Circa 1911, the W. A. Petty-Hallinan house was built the clerk for the City of Decatur’s Justice of the Peace Clerk, Mr. W.A. Petty. Mr. Petty purchased several lots along what later became Cain Street, but sold all of them off except the one at 113 where he built his house. The original house humbly began as only three rooms, totaling some 900 square feet. Today it boasts over 3,000 square feet having undergone two major construction add-ons. Two of the original fireplaces remain – one is fully functional. The other fireplace chimney stack still adorns the kitchen. The house also features stunning hardwood floors, gorgeous arched doorways, beautiful crown molding, door handles and hardware, and brick work from the original house providing a unique glimpse back in time.

The current owners, Gary and Jennifer Hallinan, purchased the home spring of 2017. Jennifer, a native of Chicago, would come to Decatur as a child to visit her grandparents and fell in love with the area. She dreamed of owning a historical home one day; so, when the Hallinan’s kids were grown, the couple transplanted their lives to Historic Decatur making Jennifer’s dream a reality. A great retirement home, the owners enjoy supporting everything local as they often walk to historic Bank Street and Downtown Decatur. The W.A. Petty-Hallinan will be a home you will not want to miss this year on the tour.
