Western Terrestrial Garter Snake (Thamnophis elegans) is enormously common in North America, and is found in a variety of environments, high and low. They often make their homes near available water, which is while you see them throughout the watershed. They have dark backs, yellow bellies, a yellow stripe on each side, and are usually over a meter long. Don't fear, they are non-poisonous!
