Wilkinsburg provided high school classes for area students since the 1880s, graduating their first class in 1887. The advanced classes were taught in various buildings around Wilkinsburg, and by adding a third floor in 1893 to the Kelly Elementary School. That third floor addition to Kelly School was built specifically for high school classes to be held. The high school students of Wilkinsburg were scattered all over the Borough, utilizing rooms in the Elementary Schools, as well as other public buildings. By 1909 the students petitioned the residents all over the Borough to gain support for a dedicated High School building to be built. The beautiful High School was built in 1910-1911 and dedicated March 31, 1911.
