1902-1919 Lived at: 3315 South State Street At the age of 17, Eugene Williams became a victim of drowning. Numerous white men began throwing stones at Williams preventing him from returning to the beach. Friction then started between blacks and whites at the shore. This racial conflict at the foot of the 29th Street beach began the worst race riot in the history of Chicago and the United States.
