The wrinkled hornbill lives in the forests of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The bony crest on top of their large bill is called a casque. The function of the casque is unknown. It is theorized that it might be used to define social status, to help enhance calls, or to help regulate body temperature. Their numbers in the wild are decreasing due to rapid habitat loss from agriculture and timber harvesting.
