The Yau Ma Tei Carpark Building acts as an important part of Yau Ma Tei. It is because of its significance of architecture style, showing the urban planning style, and the importance of acting a car park in the district.
North part of the building built in 1970 for car park usage. In 1972, the government planned to build a flyover and expand the car park, so the south part of the building was built. However, It closed to facilitate the construction of the Central Kowloon Route in 2020.
Since It was the only public-operated car park in that area or Yau Ma Tei district. The closure brings inconvenience to the public. Apart from its use, the carpark building also shows as part of the people's memories since it presents the lyrics in the classic children’s song of locals 「 火車捐山窿」(the train going through the cave).
