Zeeland Hall

Zeeland Hall is an example of the New Deal Construction Relief program, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) effort of the 1930's. It was built in 1936 for $19,000 and is done in a Colonial Revival style. One of the outstanding features of the structure is a bell tower. The bell tower and style were chosen to reflect patriotism, democracy, and moral superiority. The local sponser for the building was M.M. Braun, who would be elected as the village's first mayor once it was incorporated into a city. The building was used for community events, such as movie showings, stage productions, and carnivals. Very little has been done to the structure since it was built and the interior boasts many of its original features.
