What You'll See on the Tour

Pseudotsuga menziesii    Note needles single, cones with bracts hang down from branches strong tangerine scented needles
Picea glauca ‘Conica’   Note reversions
Picea glauca     Note needles single, shorter than Norway or blue spruce.  May be green or bluish. cones 2", dark brown branches acending

Yucca filamentosa   
Picea abies     Note needles single, dark green.  Less sharp than blue. Cones 4-8" long, medium brown Branches like ski-jumps with fringe
Cephalotaxus harringtonia   Look like taxus but with longer, darker needles
Taxus x media ‘Densiformis’ 
Picea pungens var. glauca     Note needles single, very square and sharp, blue Cones 3-4 inches, light tan color branching stiffly horizontal
Taxodium distichum    deciduous Note very horizontal branching buds tiny, almost invisible, alternate
Metasequoia glyptostroboides     deciduous Note branches acending buds clearly visible, opposite
Cryptomeria japonica    Needles awl-like, soft round cones
Taxus cuspidata v. capitata    
Picea orientalis Note needles single, VERY short, dark green cones brownish=purple
Tsuga canadensis Note needles 2-ranked, brances flattened bright stomate lines tiny cones
Picea omorika Note needles single, with PROMINENT WHITE LINES habit usually skinny but varies ski jump branches,  branchlets NOT drooping
Abies fraseri    Note needles single, flat no peg at base needles point up forming rounded brush shape on top side of branch stomate lines on undersides of needles
Taxus baccata    Note the deer love this species
Tsuga canadensis ‘Sargentii’  
Taxus x media ‘Hicksii’   Note upright habit
