This is a tour of Newport, Oregon where me and my family go crabbing every year. We have a family boat that we take. It’s my uncle Charlie's boat. We all drive up there together, and it’s about five hours away from home. We enjoy eating out at different restaurants, and we love eating the fresh crab that we catch for dinner. It is always refreshing to get away and go on a family trip. It's almost like all my worries and stress go away when I’m there. We enjoy getting out on the ocean and setting the pots; usually, we use chicken or mink. It's usually windy and a little cold when we go but, we don't mind because we are having fun. We also like to go shopping when we are over there which makes it more exciting, and we get saltwater taffy and popcorn while we walk. We also take our children to the beach area where they can play in the sand and collect seashells. This has become one of our family traditions and, I would love to share this with you.
I would also like to mention that we must protect our ocean waters so that we can continue crabbing and enjoying family traditions. Water is sacred to our cultural practices, health, and well-being. Throughout this tour, you will see the importance of food and gathering with family. Being close to the water gives me a sense of belonging and nostalgia. I feel close to my ancestors and to my grandpa especially when I’m on the boat. I also appreciate and thank the life that lives in the water that feeds our bodies. While we are in Newport, we also like going to Lincoln city which is about 30 minutes away from Newport. In Lincoln city there are many more exciting things to do.
