Tour Information

Tour the Southport locations where the hit movie Safe Haven was filmed. Safe Haven, was adapted from the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name. The movie was filmed in Southport during the summer of 2012.

The City of Southport Tourism and the Southport Historical Society are proud to provide this tour guide to our visitors and neighbors.

What You'll See on the Tour

The Fourth of July market scene was located on the Fort Johnston Visitor's Center lawn. Southport Visitors’ Center Hours:  Monday – Saturday, 10:00 – 4:00 Sunday, 1:00 – 4:00 Telephone: (910) 457-7927 ...
The rear patio on the Bay Street side of the Community Building was the location of the country dance.
Locatd at 150 Yacht Basin Drive The Old American Fish Company was named “Ivan’s Restaurant,” and is where Katie worked as a waitress.
The location of many important scenes; Alex's house is directly across from where Ryan’s Port Market was constructed for the movie. (Residence is privately owned and we ask you to respect their privacy)
Ryan's Port Market, Brunswick Street and Yacht Basin area. Built just for the movie, the market structure was dismantled after filming. The front doors are on display at the Fort Johnston-Southport Museum and Visitors’ Center.
Located at 116 North Howe Street, the Ports of Call Restaurant,The scene of Alex and Katie’s romantic dinner.
Located at 130 East Moore Street In an early scene the movie captures Katie and Jo at this popular Southport eatery.
During the parade scene, store frontsfrom the Moore Street business district appear in the background. In addition, many local residents were extras.
The Longshoremen’s Association is located at 211 West 10th Street. The Southport Police Department was filmed at this location
Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry, Ferry Road.  Katie and Alex’s ferry scene was shot at the ferry dock.
Small City Pier, West Bay Street. The location of several scenes of Katie deep in thought.
