What You'll See on the Tour

A small American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) tree between the trail and Sandy Stream
A small Bush Honeysuckle (Lonicera morrowii)
A juvenile Red Oak (Quercus rubra) between the trail and stream bank
A medium sized sugar maple (Acer saccharum) overlooking Sandy Stream
A small patch of Red Elderberries (Sambucus racemosa) located between Sandy Stream and Bacon Brook. This awesome plant has been proven to cut cold and flu times in half!
A lone Paper Birch (Betula papyrifera) surrounded by Yellow Birches (Betula alleghaniensis)
A young Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea) growing in the open canopy next to the trail
A small blackberry vine (Rubus allegheniensis) on a sandy streambank 
A mature Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) with branches extending over the river
A younger Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) tree on the streambank
A Yellow Birch (Betula alleghaniensis) on the streambank, showing its signature bark 
A small stand of juvenile beech trees (Fagus grandifolia) extending on both sides of the trail.
A large Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus) with a split trunk
A tall Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum), recognizable for its shaggy bark
A small patch of Common WInterberry (Ilex verticillata), an important food source for birds.
A small thicket of Red Osier Dogwood (Cornus sericea) intertwined with the WInterberry
Two small Tamaracks (Larix laricina) on the edge of the trail. The word Tamarack means "wood used for snowshoes" in the Algonquin language.
A small patch of White Meadowsweet (Spiraea alba) in a moist ravine
A collection of juvinile Gray Alders (Alnus incana) surrounding a small stream bed off the trail
A few juvenile Possumhaw viburnums (Viburnum nudum) taking advantage of the open canopy near the side of the trail
