Winston-Salem has a vibrant downtown area, and 4th Street is the center of much of that activity. The city has a diverse and exciting history. Many of the buildings we will look at, have a storied past and played a significant role as the small communities of Winston and Salem developed into the metropolitan city it is today. The towns would grow into one of the tobacco capitals of the south. Textiles and banking were also significant industries in Winston Salem. While their prominence has diminished, their legacy, as well as their physical presence lingers.
