Solomon Bash's daughter, Elnora, built this home in 1877 with her husband Joseph Hughes. This home and the one to the East of it (1114) originally looked the same. A major remodeling of this home in 1895 added the tower, changed the roofline, and placed a large addition on the back.
On December 23, 2012, the house, which was a five-unit apartment at the time, was badly damaged by a large fire. Flames tore through the roof and top floor, destroying belongings and displacing 9 residents only 2 days before Christmas. More than 30 firefighters battled the blaze, but the slate roof prevented the fire from venting out the roof, causing extreme damage on the back half of the house. The fire department determined the fire most likely started inside the walls of the 3rd floor, caused by faulty wiring. The fire department boarded up the house and the fire, smoke, and water damage sat untouched for years.
The house was purchased in 2014 and began a complete renovation. The floors and walls were unsalvageable and most of the house had to be stripped down to the studs. The homeowners kept what original pieces of the home they could, with original brick seen throughout, and most of the original woodwork, fireplaces, stained glass windows, and doors still intact.
