Built in 1840, this building is an example of neighborhood market with a second story dwelling common in Frederick in the 19th century. This building is a two-story house (242) entered via a central door and a shop (244) entered at the corner on the cross street. The door features two wood panels and a large window. It is topped by a transom window and simple header. The first floor windows of the residence are two over two sash windows with louvered shutters. The second floor is punctuated by five identical two over two sash windows running the entire length of the facade. The first floor shop feature large windows and a recessed door framed by stylized pilasters and a plain cornice. The entire structures is topped by a deep dentilled cornice with five large brackets.
