Black Cherry (Prunus serotina)

Trees of Woodland Park

Black Cherry (Prunus serotina)

Wood-Ridge, New Jersey 07075, United States

Created By: Unity College

Information

Location Description: Black cherry trees can be found in a wide variety of habitats except those that are very wet and very dry at elevations up to 5,000 feet. This particular tree can be found isolated in the middle of the chain link fence that lines the park on your left side.

Rational for Including: This tree is included because it is rare to see such a large black cherry tree since most are harvested for their wood. Also, it has edible berried that I have eaten on many occasions.

This point of interest is part of the tour: Trees of Woodland Park
