The Canary Islands are an island chain off the coast of Africa that have a varied and highly endemic (unique to the islands) flora. From large Dragon palms (Dracaena draco) to lavender flowered Statice (Limonium spp.) and even large leaved, succulent Aeoniums, the lack of large herbivores on the islands has allowed plants to evolve large leaves and flowers, as well as having longer flowering periods. This area peaks in a symphony of pastel blooms sometime in late March through early May.
