Tour Information

The L.A. County Arboretum & Botanic Garden (first known as the Los Angeles State and County Arboretum) was conceived as a collection of woody trees and shrubs from around the world from which suitable selections for landscaping the then booming suburbs could be made. It was thought that placing the Arboretum's acquisitions in areas corresponding to their geographic origen would not only be a good way of organizing the collection, but could also add to the Arboretum's museum-like appeal.

The geographic collections were originally as follows:

  • The South African Section
  • The Australian Section
  • The African Section
  • The Mediterranean Section
  • The Tule Pond
  • The Asian and North American Section
  • The South American and Mexican Section.
  • The Engelmann Oak Forest

Later on the following geographically distinct sections and exhibits were added:

  • The Madagascar Exhibit
  • The Canary Island Exhibit
  • The Chilean Collection

This tour will guide to each section, describe it, its collection, and highlight key plants in it. Please enjoy the tour!
