Information

The 1913 Hotel Clark, designed by Harrison Albright for Eli P. Clark, is a classically-styled wonder of egg-and-dart, dentils, modillions, and capitals along with magnificent ornamental fire escapes. The neon sign was likely added in the fall of 1937. The first floor and marquee had a remodel in "California Modern" by famed leisure architect Wayne McAllister in 1953.

Purchased by the Chinese government in 1988, 200 long-term elderly tenants were evicted, the CRA signed off on gutting the hotel, and, after it was gutted, it sat empty for twenty years. Purchased by the Chetrit Group out of New York, it has sat empty for almost another ten, with promises that it would open "soon."
