Community Resources

The next block is one of the neighborhood hubs, and you will walk by several resources available for the community.

The Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDC, 1535 Fred Jackson Way, Suite A, 510 412-9290) creates and reshapes different living spaces in the Bay Area to improve the quality of houses by upgrading them and providing multiple other services. One such specialized program, Racial Equity in Housing, provides affordable housing for historically marginalized and low-income residents. Another program, Driving Clean Assistance, provides affordable and safe ways for households to purchase a car.

Healthy Contra Costa (1501 Fred Jackson Way, 1-800-495-8885) is a public health organization, working to improve the health of all people in Contra Costa County with special attention to those who are most vulnerable to health problems.

The Community Resources Center (1540 Fred Jackson Way, 510-221-2595) provides a quiet space with new desktop computers and wifi, and students of all ages are invited to come and work here for free. There's also a small meeting space for community members. Some discussion topics covered in meetings include housing funding improvements, increased access to trains and buses, improving bike lanes and sidewalks, and ramps for people in wheelchairs. The CRC can also help with sensitive issues such as domestic violence. These can all help reduce inequality in our neighborhood. This is also a good location to mention the renovation West Contra Costa County undertook all along Fred Jackson Way, from Urban Tilth to where you stand now. This project was accomplished in 2022 as part of the North Richmond Watershed Connections initiative. The renovation included the addition of of bike lanes, widening the sidewalks, and planting trees, to beautify the street, encourage active transportation-biking and walking, and connect people to their watershed!
