52 Gansevoort St., 212-242-1701, Meatpacking District, Manhattan
The Meatpacking District exhibits less and less of its bloody origins, the cobblestone streets now lined with designer shops, boutique hotels, chic restaurants and luxury high-rises looming over the High Line. Gansevoort Market epitomizes its environs, a former open-air trading post transformed into a raw, 8,000-square-foot space. Duck in to find brightly hued macarons from Dana's Bakery, French crêpes from Crêpe Sucre, espresso from Brooklyn's Champion Coffee and tacos from Tacombi Taqueria's open-air VW bus. There is also fresh produce, a high-end butcher, Italian sandwiches from Cappone's Salumeria, sushi to-go from Sushi Dojo Express and pork-centric fare from Pig Guy NYC. In the back are vintage tables and mismatched chairs for those who'd like sit and stay awhile.
