K177 Rebuild Workshop

Mount Eliza, Victoria 3930, Australia

Created By: Mornington Railway Preservation Socicety Inc.

Information

This is the workshop where K177 is currently being re-built. We are seeking urgent required funds and volunteers to assist with this project.

K177 was built at Newport Workshops in 1941. It spent a short 26 year working life before finally being towed to Ararat for storage in July 1967. This locomotive came to MRPS from a preservation display in Langi Morgala Museum, Ararat in 1989 where it had been since 1972.

Donated as a restoration project, work continues at Moorooduc using volunteers to perform much of the effort involved. K 177 will be named 'City of Ararat' after restoration.

K159 + K191 are also K classe locomotives pending long term restoration. You Will see in this area that K191 has also be stripped for restoration. Both of these locomotives can be viewed during a site tour of the Moorooduc Railway Station.
