Light Installation: Penguin Island
Jolly penguins frolic and play on this icy island of joy! Did you know that a group of penguins in the water is called a raft, but on land they are called a waddle? Here are some other fun facts about penguins:
Penguins huddle to keep themselves warm and to protect themselves from predators.
Penguins are flightless birds, but they can become airborne. Some can leap as high as nine feet!
Penguins are excellent swimmers. Gentoo penguins are the fastest penguin species. In the water, they can reach swimming speeds of 22 miles an hour.
Penguins can drink sea water.
There are at least 17 species of penguins.
The smallest penguin is about 10” tall, and the largest can grow to over 4 feet!
