On the right is Locke’s Island. Locke’s was the first land inhabited by colonial settlers. Behind the island is Glendale Bay, a small but very busy harbor. The bay is home to two major marinas, the Gilford Yacht Club, the Gilford Public Docks and the Headquarters of the New Hampshire Marine patrol. The Marine Patrol is the aquatic branch of the New Hampshire State Police. The officers maintain the navigation aids, assist boaters in distress, and enforce navigation laws throughout the state.
