At 13 West Fourth was originally Shillitos, designed by James McLaughlin in 1857 but was taken over by McAlpins when Shillitos moved north to Seventh Street. in 1879.
Next door was originally the Robert Mitchell Furniture Company designed by James Keys Wilson in 1873. The building was taken over by McAlpins in 1900.
10-18 West Fourth Street is the former Gidding-Jenny clothing store. The building was built in 1883 as Gidding's, but merged with neighboring Jenny's in 1962. The Rookwood tile work was added to the building in 1907.
At 4 West Fourth is the Hershedes Building. Hershedes jewelers and clock makers was founded in 1877 but moved into this building in 1939.
2 West Fourth is the German National Bank built in 1903 by Rapp, Zettle and Rapp. Its name was changed to the Lincoln Bank during World War I.
