This recreation center is home to Marist College intercollegiate sports teams, many intramural teams, and also recreational and club athletics. The McCann center was named after James J. McCann who was born in 1880 in Poughkeepsie. It is 57,200 square feet which includes a field house, Olympic size swimming pool, dance studio, and weight room.This recreation center was built in 1977 with funding from the James J. McCann Foundation.The recreation center expanded later in 1997 adding an additional 20,000 square feet. This expansion included an 11,000 square foot auxiliary gym, a 4,300 square foot weight training area, and a 4,000 square foot cardiovascular area. Another addition was the student enhancement center which serves as a place for athletes to get work done and serve as a quiet area reserved for athletes.
