Port of Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Banaadir Somalia

Created By: Justice Stubblefield

Information

This is the biggest port in Mogadishu and it is one of the main reasons that the city became popular in the 1800s. But the history of the port was much deeper than that, the port can date back to the Midevil time period and had an influence on the Silk Road. It wasn't until the Italians took reign in the late 19th century that the port was revamped and utilized to its maximum potential as the key trading port along the east coast of Africa. Creating a successful trading port was critical in boosting the economy and wealth of the city, thus having a direct impact on the population of people that skyrocketed during the 20th century.

According to reports the Port is actually been closed for quite some time due to the growing concern with the internal Civil Wars that are still going on in the city. There is a constant battle being fought among the groups for control over the ports and this is one of the main reasons that the government closed the ports from importing and exporting goods. The government also told shipping companies and other countries to send their goods to other places along the coast. Unfortunately, this is a common theme in Mogadishu, and with little support and infrastructure, the city continues to fall deeper and deeper into war.
