As part of the renovation of the Shields Reid Park, a Habitat Garden will be created. This will be a public space to attract and supports native birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife, for the benefit of the resident. Community members will be able to come and enjoy nature in their backyard.
The Watershed Project is working with the local community to help define what type of habitat will the Shields Reid Habitat Garden create, what plants it will be planted and where, and what other elements will it include. Some ideas coming from the community are reading corners, benches, and trellises.
What type of Habitat Garden do you want to have? In the photos above, different types of habitat gardens are presented.
After the garden will be installed in early 2024, neighborhood residents and volunteers will be invited to take stewardship and maintain the garden with The Watershed Project to help keep the Habitat Garden thriving and better serve the people.
