The Tule Pond used to be an arm of Baldwin lake until grading of the Arboretum in the early 50's cut if off from the main lake. It is currently fed by runnoff from the suburban area just to the west, northwest of the pond. It was originally planted with rush and tule native to California to represent what the Baldwin lake area, a naturally spring fed sag pond created by what is essentially an natural, underground dam, would have looked like before the area was developed.
