The lake normally freezes over completely in the winter, often to depths of 2 to 3 feet depending on snowfall and temperature conditions. Winter activities such as ice fishing and snowmobiling are very popular. It’s a common sight to look out over the ice and see villages of fishing shacks. Vehicle traffic n addition to snowmobiles includes pickup trucks, vans and even an occasional R-V. The ice begins to form between Christmas and New Year’s and breaks up in late march through mid April.
