The Cascadilla Boathouse was completed in 1896 as an athletic facility for the Cascadilla School, a prep school for future Cornell students. Now home to the Cascadilla Boat Club, this elegan boathouse, designed by Clinton L. Vivian and Arthur Gibb, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The City of Ithaca, Cascadilla Boat Club and Friends of Stewart Park are in the process of revitalizing the building. In 2013, an interpretive panel recounting the building’s history was installed on its exterior, and the City replaced the building’s roof in 2015. In 2021, the building's exterior was repaired, restored and painted by Bero Architecture. The work was paid for with an Environmental Protection Fund grant of $367K from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, awarded to Historic Ithaca in partnership with the City of Ithaca, Friends of Stewart Park and Wharton Studio Museum.
