Point of Interest Details

Known as a “living fossil” of our time, the Dawn Redwoods, or Metasequoia glyptostroboides, were rediscovered in the 1940s in their native region of the Hubei province in China after previously being considered extinct. Many efforts in conserving these trees include a forest located in Lichuan, Hubei, China that is protected by Chinese law and the only forest of wild Dawn Redwoods outside of China is a preserve located in North Carolina.
