GPS Signal Lost
Acrylic: 21.5” x 34” including frame $500
Laurie O’Reilly was raised in Toronto. She is a full-time figurative and environmental painter. When she and her husband were young and spending their summers travelling and camping in the gorgeous ‘North Country”, they often found themselves wondering, “Who gets to live here?” Now they reminisce and say, “We do.”
About the Work
When my husband and I started travelling to the Dysart area, we were impressed by a number of things, one being how far you could get away from the crowds. Travelling down backroads, we looked for land where we could build the house of our dreams (with a designated studio space for me). We were amazed, and sometimes quite lost, because all of a sudden our GPS would announce "GPS signal lost"--and we were not under a viaduct. Areas of no satellite contact with the rest of the world were often isolated, or protected by sheer rock or 'highlands'. At the time, I was working almost solely as a figurative painter. These places stopped me in my tracks; they required me to slow down, to take the time to record their beauty.
