Following news of the decision by the Board of Public Works in 1913 to clear up land adjacent to Fall Creek, the Cayuga Bird Club began efforts to preserve the area and its wildlife. Around May of 1914, the land was declared a city preserve and the Cayuga Bird Club became involved in maintaining the Renwick Wildwood. The original archway entrance to Renwick Wildwood can be found in the far south corner of the preserve. The CBC leads bird walks each spring for novice bird watchers and experts alike and has a wealth of information on its website.
This location is famous for it’s great-horned owls. If you walk to the middle of the bridge, you’ll find an interpretive sign with more information about other bird species popular to the wildwood.
Please note that although dogs are allowed in Stewart Park on leashes, they are NOT permitted in Renwick Wildwood for the protection of the birds and their habitat.
