Tour Information

This is a walking tour which is going to focus on the demolished buildings around Grand Central Market just to the north of south, Angels Flight across the street, which is still out of commission, the 19th century business block (now replaced by the MTA station) at the SE corner of 5th & Hill, and the 1994 remodel of Pershing Square.

Grand Central Market

This is the Hill Street entrance to Grand Central Market.  It has a major renovation in 1964, and again in 1994, which is it current state.

Former location of the F.P. Fay Buiding

This is the former location of the FP Fay Building (Dennis & Farwell, 1904).  It is the opening sequence of the John Fante novel, "Dreams from Bunker Hill." Ira Yellin demolished the building for a parking lot for Grand Central Market ... Read more

Belmont Hotel

The YWCA was designed by Arthur Benton and opened in 1908.  It became the Hotel Belmont in 1924.  It was demolished in 1971.
